Canadian Wear Technologies partners with customers to provide unparalleled savings through productivity increases, equipment uptime and increased material reliability. The company developed the Abreco Wear System® 15 years ago which was an engineered approach to something previously never done – using white iron where previously not possible. Through engineering and design, the material has been pushed past what was conventionally thought possible for white iron and the Abreco Wear System adopts a proven consultative process to implement the world’s best abrasive wear packages.

Agnico Eagle – LaRonde mining complex has been a long standing partner with which the Abreco Wear System has been deployed to show the materials’ resilience in situations of adversity.

In 2016, one of the applications considered to be a trouble spot was the measuring box discharge chutes. In this application, 430 tonnes of ore passed through the system on an hourly basis. The measuring box was originally lined with 1” thick AR500. These plates lasted an average of 3 months which translated to 4 work outages annually for liner changes. The entire system was reviewed and an improved design of 1” ABRECO was installed. The results were that the required annual outages were dropped from 4 to 1 providing valuable increase to productive uptime on the skips. The return on investment was calculated to be $0.64/tonne when compared to AR500. Further to the cost savings and
productivity increases, the company is able to boast an increase in safety due to removing enclosed space operations.

Let’s look at why the ABRECO® works so well.

ABRECOPLATE® is a composite of extremely abrasion resistant, high alloy, high carbide white iron, diffusion bonded to a mild steel backing. The steel backing not only provides weld-ability but most importantly, it provides ductility for impact resistance. The white iron wear layer is completely through-hardened to 700+ Brinell, (64 RC) with no soft center which simply means longer life when compared to
other wear materials.

In January of 2012, Canadian Malartic Mine entrusted the Abreco Wear System to assist in productivity improvements for their newly commissioned crushing operation. This partnership has proven to provide both mine maintenance and planning departments the visibility to plan outages in a proactive rather than reactive state. The team at MCM can now boast 5 years of reliable operation of their stock
pile apron feeders and 2 years on the primary crusher apron feeder, surpassing the previous 6 month maximum. The mill circuit was historically interrupted every 30 days for chute and pipe work and is now operating on a 3 month maintenance schedule saving 8 mill outages annually. The combined efforts and engineered solutions have been confirmed to not only provide equipment uptime but significant
maintenance savings.

Since the development of the Abreco Wear System, Canadian Wear Technologies has been able to save customers millions of dollars annually through improvements to wear material, chute designs and optimization projects proving that Abreco truly is ‘Engineered to Outperform’.
